May is National Bicycle Month

It’s time to get on two wheels people! May is National bicycle month, In San Antonio there are all kinds of two wheeled action taking place.

Before I dive into the events like a clown out of a canon at a cheesy 3 ring circus, let’s talk political action for a moment. I received this email from the League of American Bicyclists:

” Congress has delayed the transportation bill again, which gives us all at National Bike Month to showcase the value of bicycling projects and programs is the most effective way: inviting members of Congress to come see for themselves! They’ve heard from thousands of cyclists via e-mail and they met 800 of you in person during the National Bike Summit. Now it’s time to use the fabulous events that are already planned for National Bike Month to “Show Congress” what we’re talking about! Whether it’s a ribbon cutting, bike to work event, ride of silence, or kids rodeo… give your event a truly lasting impact by sharing it with a member of Congress! Click here for more details!

Sincerely, Andy Clarke”
I hope that in addition to attending one of the many National Bicycle Month events, you let your voice be heard at the national, state and a local levels. I know here in San Antonio we have a long way to go toward bicycle friendly, but I think we are making progress at great speed….we just need to the keep that momentum. America Bikes has some great suggestions for getting your voice heard on their Show Congress webpage.
May will be a very busy month for cycling in San Antonio. We have everything from pub crawls, to races, to interviews with Trek Bicycles President, and more. I hope you make it to some of the events!
